It’s been a busy spring for Montgomery County CERT, and I am please to offer a brief update on some of our projects. First, CERT has a new home in Montgomery County! As of this month, we will have additional office, training, and storage space available at the new Community Services Building (CSB) located in Rockville at 600 East Gude Drive in Rockville, MD. We are sharing space there with Community Risk Reduction and Tech Ops. A huge thanks to Fire Chief Goldstein and the MCFRS staff for spearheading this project. We will continue to use the PSHQ facility for training and large meetings. The CSB will also be the home base for CERT 700 and its equipment. We are planning a walk-through “housewarming” for the CSB this summer and will advise.

Congrats to Katelyn Keegan for stepping up and taking on the roles of CERT Treasurer as well as VERT coordinator. Also a shout out to our newly elected slate of officers, President Hanou, Vice President Wernick, and Secretary Massi who have hit the ground running and are extremely active in planning and taking part in CERT events.

A well done is in order to David Steele and the Training Team for the successful completion of the recent CERT Basic Class and planning a special map reading FTX for June 4. Check CERVIS for information.

This summer is chock full of events, PLEASE check CERVIS for opportunities. We wish to open events to ALL CERTS, so even if you don’t have Go Team credentials, we can and will use your help. Each event a CERT leader will issue assignments based on members individual profiles and needs, so come out and lend a hand this summer. We are in the process of updating the calendar on this website to reflect all the activities this summer.

CPR re-certs are back in progress, thanks to our upgraded CPR team, we are now offering AHA CPR/AED to CERT members. We plan to offer more Friends and Family classes soon, watch this space.

The next CERT Basic class will take place on a Wednesday/Sunday schedule. It will be held October 4, 2023 to November 12, 2023. Watch for registration information here.
