evening of the month, at 8:00 PM The MARC 2 meter repeater The Montgomery CERT Net Control Script.
MONTGOMERY CERT – TRAINING NET – SCRIPT
2000 hours Local – 146.955 repeater
(negative offset)
[START at 2000 hours local after the repeater announces the hour and the female voice says “Good Evening.”] Is this frequency in use?
[Wait 5 seconds] This is the MONTGOMERY CERT – TRAINING NET. This is [YOUR CALL SIGN – phonetically] [YOUR NAME - phonetically]. Is there EMERGENCY traffic for the NET?? [Wait – then acknowledge anyone with
emergency “traffic” (message) and ask them to say their message. After
they do this, you will continue with the formal net.] Is there a backup net control
station on frequency? [Wait and acknowledge] Calling the Montgomery County
Maryland CERT net. This net is for members of the Community Emergency
Response Team (CERT) in Montgomery County Maryland who hold amateur
radio licenses and those who are monitoring and are working on, or
considering, an Amateur Radio license. This net is scheduled to meet here
on the 146.955 repeater courtesy of the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club.
We meet the first, third, fourth, and fifth Thursday evenings, from now
through the end of June 2007. That is, all but the second Thursday. This is a training net allowing
newly licensed amateurs who are members of CERT to become comfortable
with amateur radio net procedures and their equipment before being
called into service during an incident. Later on, as CERT members become
more familiar with their equipment and radio procedures, we expect to
include a review of message traffic handling procedures. We encourage
our CERT radio amateur licensees to participate in the Montgomery County
Emergency and Public Service Net every Tuesday, once they are
comfortable with net procedures. The Emergency and Public Service net
takes place at 2000 hours (8 pm) on this same frequency: 146.955 with
the standard negative offset. Finally, we hope to graduate to a
simplex net or nets in the fall of 2007. This is [YOUR FIRST NAME], [YOUR
CALL SIGN] The Backup Station this evening is [CALL
SIGN AND NAME OF BACKUP STATION]. I will now take check in s from
Montgomery County CERT members. Say your call sign using
standard ITU phonetics; your name; whether your are fixed, mobile, or
portable; and your current location As an example, my reply would be

Control for the Montgomery CERT net, with Backup Station [CALL SIGN

County CERT members or out-of-county CERT members who would like to
check into the net? [Acknowledge each station that replies and
add to the check-list] Here are the announcements for
tonight [today's date]: 1. Our monthly membership meeting
will be [Day and date] in Rockville, Maryland. 2. Those interested in training for and becoming a member of Montgomery CERT may email info@MontgomeryCERT.org for information about upcoming training. 3. At our monthly meeting, we will
review the locations of our CERT members who hold amateur radio licenses
in preparation for subsequent simplex nets in the fall of 2007. Are there any additional announcements from any of the other CERT officers? [Wait. Calling stations should
indicate their desire to speak by saying their call sign only. Net
Control recognizes each calling station in turn by repeating their call
sign and saying “go ahead,” allowing the station to make their
announcement. At the end of all comments, Net Control should resume
running the net.] Again, this is [YOUR CALL SIGN AND

you can and if they do not involve sensitive information. Thank the
station for their question; get contact information; schedule a reply
off the air.] This is [YOUR CALL SIGN]
